Elderberry Syrup

Flu season is here and immune support is so extremely necessary. I do have a strict regimen we follow in the winter months to stay as healthy as possible. Some years we don't get sick at all or at worst 12hrs-2days. I've heard things like "You just have good genetics" but I really, really work at it. I refuse to accept that being perpetually sick is normal. Part of my regimen is Elderberry syrup. The berries contain flavonoid compounds that are known antioxidants, exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, and are beneficial to the immune system. Laboratory studies have also shown that elder extracts act as antivirals, inhibiting replication of flu and other viruses thus decreasing the duration of flu symptoms.
2/3c dried elderberry
2 tsp ginger powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
3 1/2c water
1 c honey or vegetable glycerin
Mix every thing, except honey, and simmer for abt 45min until reduced by about 1/2. I blended this solution until smooth and once cooled, strained. Then add honey or glycerin. This should last several months in the fridge.
We do 1tsp for the little kids and 1tbls for grownups a day.
You can also buy this but it costs about a kidney 😂.
